North East Victoria Silo Art Trail Road Trip - Motorhome Itinerary & Silos & Campgrounds The North East Victoria Silo Art Trail is one of Victoria’s most rewarding road trips, taking you through rolling farmland, colourful country towns, and incredible large-scale artworks. This trail is Australia’s most extensive outdoor art gallery, featuring eight stunning silo murals painted by world-renowned artists. In this video, we explore the North East Victoria Silo Art Trail, visiting silos, discovering vibrant street art, and staying at lovely riverside campgrounds. Benalla is a charming regional city on the Broken River and is recognised as one of Australia’s leading street art destinations and is home to more than 50 large-scale murals. Our first silo stop is Goorambat, just 16 kilometres north of Benalla. Goorambat Silos In 2018, Australian artist Jimmy D’Vate painted a striking Barking Owl on one of the tall concrete silos. In 2019, Jimmy returned to paint three powerful Clydesdale horses on another silo. Inside the Uniting Church is Sophia, a stunning mural painted by renowned artist Adnate in 2017. We then drive 12 kilometres to Devenish. Devenish Silo Art The GrainCorp silos here were painted by Melbourne artist Cam Scale and unveiled on Anzac Day in 2018. The murals depict a World War I nurse and a modern-day combat medic. A second silo celebrates the Australian Light Horse, with more murals by local artist Tim Bowtell on the public toilets and old stables near the Hotel After Devenish, we travel 9 kilometres to St James. St James Silo Art The four silos here were painted by Tim Bowtell and tell the story of the town’s history, including Sir George Coles, founder of Coles supermarkets. A short walk from the silos we saw the original Coles store. Next, we drive 24 kilometres to Tungamah. Tungamah Silo Art Painted in 2018 by Western Australian artist Sobrane Simcock, the Tungamah silos feature vibrant Australian birdlife. Sobrane has also painted a beautiful mural on the Information Centre wall. Tungamah Lions RV Park Campground We stayed the night at Tungamah Lions RV Park, located beside Boosey Creek. This campground is Suitable for motorhomes and caravans, it is Pet-friendly, has toilets, hot showers and BBQs. This campground is Donation-based and run by volunteers On Day 2, we travel from Tungamah to Aysons Reserve Campground, covering 180 kilometres. Our first stop today is Katamatite, 22 kilometres from Tungamah. Katamatite Silos Painted by Tim Bowtell in 2023, the silos feature a Wedge-tailed Eagle, Indigenous figures along Boosey Creek, a scar tree, and the town’s first passenger train. Nearby at Katamatite Lions Park, you’ll also find a life-size metal eagle sculpture by Andrew Whitehead and chainsaw art by Robby Bast. ☕ Numurkah – Morning Tea Stop We then drive 26 kilometres to Numurkah, a welcoming country town on Broken Creek. We stop for morning tea at Cherish Brews and Bites, next to a colourful 20-metre mural by Sobrane featuring local birdlife. From Numurkah, we travel 40 kilometres to Picola. Picola Silos Painted by Jimmy D’Vate, the Picola silo features a Superb Parrot set against a Barmah National Park backdrop. Next, we drive 75 kilometres to Rochester, a lovely town on the Campaspe River. Rochester Silos Painted by Jimmy D’Vate, the Rochester silos feature: A Squirrel Glider, an Azure Kingfisher, a Platypus and a New Holland Honeyeater Camping – Aysons Reserve Campground We stay overnight at Aysons Reserve Campground, a peaceful bush camp along the Campaspe River. Facilities include: Flat sites for all camping setups, Toilets and dump point, Fishing, swimming & birdwatching, Dog-friendly. This is a Free campground managed by Campaspe Shire Council After our overnight stay, we drive back toward Benalla via Colbinabbin. Colbinabbin Silos Painted by Tim Bowtell, the six silos here tell the story of the town through scenes including: Colbinabbin Tractor Pull, Farmers Picnic on the Hill, Steam Train & Railway Station and Lulu the Fire Truck After admiring the silos, we drive back to Benalla.
