ఉన్నచోట బతకలేక వలసపోయి అలమటించిన మన పెద్దల వెత ఇది. కలతనుండి కోలుకొని, కాలూనిన నేలనే నమ్ముకొని, ఎంతో ఎత్తుకు ఎదిగిన వలసల కత ఇది. ఈ తెలుగుకత నూరేళ్ల కిందట కళింగం నుండి మొదలవుతుంది. వేల ఆమడల కడలిని గడచి, మలయా దేశానికి చేరుతుంది. చెమటతో ఆనేలను తడిపి పాటుపడి సాగుచేసిన కూలి బతుకులను గురించి ఎలుగెత్తి చెబుతుంది. ఆ పిమ్మట గొప్పగా ఎదిగి తమ తల్లిపలుకును అక్కడ నిలువెత్తున నిలుపుకొన్న ఒక జాతి జనులను మన కనులకు కడుతుంది. ఇది మన కత. మన తోడబుట్టినవారి కత. ప్రపంచమంతా చాటిచెప్పవలసిన తెలుగుకత. నుడి అంటే రండి పోండి తినండి పడుకోండి వంటి వట్టి మాటలు మట్టుకే కాదు. ఆ మాటలను నింపుకొని నడిచే తియ్యని నడవడిక తీరు. ఆ మాటలన్నీ కమ్ముకొని సాగే కమ్మని బతుకుబాట. ఇంటికి మట్టుకే మిగుల్చుకొంటే నుడిని నిలుపుకొన్నట్లు కాదు. ఇంటా బయటా కూడా వాడాలి. మనకైతే ఇబ్బంది ఉండదు కానీ, 70శాతం మంది మలయాను మాట్లాడే దేశంలో, అమ్మనుడిని బయట నిలబెట్టుకొనడం చాలా అలమటతో కూడుకొన్న పని. ఆ పనిని చేసి చూపించినారు, కళింగం తెలుగువారు. బడిలో అక్షరంగా, గుడిలో భజనగా మట్టుకే కాదు, కళలుగా కూడా నిలబెట్టుకొన్నారు తెలుగును. బుర్రకతలు, దాటుభజనలు, చిరతలు, గొబ్బిళ్లు, సేవగరిడి వంటి పల్లెకళలను ఇంకా నిలబెట్టుకొని కొనసాగిస్తున్నారు. తెలుగు కోసం మలేసియా తెలుగువారు పడిన, పడుతున్న పాటు మాటలలో చెప్పలేనంత పెద్దది. మన తలపులకు కూడా అందనంత గొప్పది. వారి వేదనను వెతలను మనం తలకెత్తుకొని మోయనక్కర లేదు కానీ, వారిని గుండెలకు హత్తుకొని, మీకు మేమున్నాం అనే నమ్మకాన్నివ్వడం మన కనీస ధర్మం కదా. This is the story of the struggles of our elders, who unable to make a living, migrated to far shores in distress. It is the story of migrants who, recovering from turmoil, trusted the new soil beneath their feet and rose to great heights. This Telugu story begins a hundred years ago in Kalinga. It crosses thousands of miles of ocean and reaches Malaysia. It speaks out about the laboring lives of workers who toiled hard, drenched in sweat, and cultivated the land. Later, it shows us a people who rose in stature and preserved their mother tongue with pride in a foreign land. This is our story, the story of our kin, a Telugu tale that deserves to be told across the world. Language is not just what we speak. It is what we speak, sing and celebrate; it is a way of life. Speaking mother tongue at home alone is not enough. It has to be proudly celebrated extramurally too. While we might not feel the difficulty, in a country where 70% of the people speak Malay, these people who clung to their mother tongue had to struggle immensely to keep their Telugu alive. And it was the Kalinga Telugus who accomplished this. They upheld Telugu not only in learning letters in school but also in spirit as singing hymns in temples, and as a lifestyle itself. They continued folk traditions like Burrakatha, Daatu bhajana, Chirathalu, Gobbillu, and Sevagaridi. The efforts the Malaysian Telugus made, and continue to make, for the sake of Telugu are beyond words, beyond even our imagination.
