The use of coolant during machining causes liquid contamination and condensation inside the machine tool. But HEIDENHAIN linear and angle encoders designed for this environment can still read their measuring scales clearly. In this video, Thilo Schlicksbier demonstrates how the special light guiding element used in our TRUE IMAGE TECHNOLOGY eliminates the optical distortions typically caused by droplets of liquid on the scale, thereby ensuring a clear image of the scale lines as perceived by the scanning head. This technology makes it possible to greatly simplify the machine’s purge air system, thus reducing the encoder’s carbon footprint by up to 99% and significantly lowering the system costs. Through the lower number of components in the purge air system, TRUE IMAGE TECHNOLOGY from HEIDENHAIN also enables faster installation of the encoder.
