It's been 14 years since The Intersection moved to Grandville Avenue in Grand Rapids. The popular concert venue, once in Eastown, moved near downtown in 2004. Now, two new basement venues are nearly doubling its total capacity. The 1,100-person "Elevation" hosted its first show Saturday, March 17. The room features a tiered concert floor connected by long, curved ramps. They say Elevation fills a need for bands attracting crowds of about 800. Past a rear bar is a hall leading to The Mint, the other new venue. With a 150-person capacity, The Mint aims at smaller, more intimate events. Owners also hope to use it as overflow space and for exclusive after-show parties. Two more venues are upstairs: The Intersection and its smaller front room, The Stache. Four rooms of different sizes could allow multiple bands to play under the same roof. Upcoming shows can be found online at sectionlive.com.
