Brewing a Youngs American Pale Ale with Oat Malt Extract & Extra Krush & Strata Hops

The Youngs American pale ale beer kit has been around for a number of years. We made it a few years back and it’s a West Coast style pale ale. I’m not keen on West Coast beers, I find them a little bit too bitter from my taste. So I thought if I used oat malt extract and extra hops, I could turn this kit into an east coast pale ale. So that’s what we did. Using the Youngs American pale ale beer kit with a tin of Muntons oat malt extract for the initial fermentation. Adding in the hops that come with the kits and making an additional hop addition with krush and strata hops. Initial results are tasting good. The bitterness has been mellowed by the oats and the hops have added lots of tropical fruit flavours If you love craft beer, then give this kit go!
