This month on OI LIVE we are talking about the pass and crash situations in an effort to prepare ourselves for the post season games of basketball. Who watches the pass and who watches the crash? Can anyone get these types of plays or is it only a primary area type of siutation? Officials Institute (OI) Chairman of the Board, Joshua Schroeder, talked about all of this on February 19, 2026 with all plays revolving around the pass and crash topic. OI LIVE meetings are conducted every month with the intent to provide instruction to basketball officials and assist in helping everyone get better. If you are interested in participating in these meetings, become a member by clicking the link. https://officialsinstitute.org/member... OI believes that watching and discussing videos in a group brings better awareness in how to apply the rules of basketball in real game situations and provides a fun and supportive environment for officials to ask questions and share philosophies by fellow officials. Asking questions while analyzing video is a valuable learning tool and by giving repetitive looks at the same play increases retention of rules and philosophies of rules. All videos shown are actual high school basketball videos. The video of this online meeting includes 10 various video clips and, two bonus clips. 0:00 - Intro 1:11 - Meeting Schedule 2:02 - Cadence whistle from the Center reaching into the Leads area 9:12 - No whistle on this pass and crash play in the paint. Should there have been? 11:59 - Significant contact on this pass and crash that lead calls 14:18 - Transition play ending in a crash with no whistle by any official 20:48 - Submission by an OI member 26:32 - Another OI member submission. Was this a block or a charge? Watch and see how close this one is 30:02 - A lot of discussion on this play. Charge called but was it? How could the Trail miss it? 36:09 - Perfectly executed pass and crash by this excellent crew 40:53 - Pass and crash that had marginal contact. Was it worth calling? 45:29 - Charge called on a play that seems to have little to no contact 52:56 - BONUS PLAY 56:10 - Meeting Schedule Watching video clips is a good way to stay connected to the skill of officiating basketball but education and learning can more effectively be attained doing it in a group with some direction from a key speaker. Remembering specific rules and application of those rules is easier when visual aids are used to present in a way that is easy to listen to and understand. The Officials Institute, and their monthly video review meetings, create a fun environment that allows participants to speak up and voice their opinions on plays without negative retribution or rebuttals. Everyone's opinion is worth something and adds to the overall learning experience that everyone should strive for, regardless of years of experience. Breaking down film in slow motion and freeze frames helps to "retrain our brain" so when we see the same plays in real time we are in a better position mentally to get the call right. #passandcrash #blockcharge #playercontrol #NFHSbasketballrules #basketballofficial #officialsinstitute For more videos by the Officials Institute subscribe to this channel / officialsinstitute OR click the following video links Rule Review - Correctable Errors • Do you know how to identify a correctable ...
