Nadia Nerina and David Blair - The Ribbon Dance ('La Fille Mal Gardée', 1962)

I saw David Blair dance his last Colas in Frederick Ashton's version of 'La Fille Mal Gardée' with his Lise being Merle Park - it was at Covent Garden in 1972 or 1973. The evening was very emotional. And then things were even more emotional when the dancer died not long after in 1975 at the very early age of 43. This upload from a performance by the original cast of this Frederick Ashton version of the ballet is dedicated to Blair's memory. This excerpt shows Nerina and Blair performing The Ribbon Dance. The whole ballet was shot at the BBC on 27th December 1962. Included in the cast here were Stanley Holden as Widow Simone, Leslie Edwards as Thomas and Alexander Grant as Alain. John Lanchbery conducted the Covent Garden Orchestra. This footage is particularly poignant for me as I saw Blair's last Colas in 'Fille' in 1972 or 1973, not too long before he died in 1975 at only 43 years old. His Lise was Merle Park. Enjoy!
