Christmas Chapel 25 December 2021 [거름과 구유의 메시아 | Messiah beside Manure in Manger] 누가복음Luke 2: 3-7 Hymn찬송가 109 누가복음 2: 3모든 사람이 호적하러 각각 고향으로 돌아가매 4요셉도 다윗의 집 족속이므로 갈릴리 나사렛 동네에서 유대를 향하여 베들레헴이라 하는 다윗의 동네로 5그 약혼한 마리아와 함께 호적하러 올라가니 마리아가 이미 잉태하였더라 6거기 있을 그 때에 해산할 날이 차서 7첫아들을 낳아 강보로 싸서 구유에 뉘었으니 이는 여관에 있을 곳이 없음이러라 Luke 2: 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. (ESV) [Messiah beside Manure in Manger / 거름과 구유의 메시야]   We already know that Jesus was born in a manger. But I would like to call your attention to the fact that Jesus was born in terrible circumstances. The verses on the First Christmas show terrible circumstances can bring us no choice but to believe in Jesus. Tax and death are always certain in this world. But tax and new life are always certain in verses 3, 4, 5. When Jesus’ parents had to register in Bethlehem for their Inland Revenue they needed some days of journeying by foots around 85 miles from Nazareth, dealing with the threat of robbers. The parents did not have any choice other than to give birth to Jesus. They needed some days of staying with animals. 6, 7 In verse 6, it was ‘while they were there’ (not upon their arrival) that Mary went into labour. 1) But Jesus was born in a manger among the smell of manure, under the living quarters, not a raised platform area of house. If the house owner had known who Jesus was he would have absolutely provided the best room for Jesus, but he did not get to know because he was in decent circumstances that gave him the ability to choose profit. 2) People can make room for Jesus when they have no choice with surrounding circumstances in affliction.
