Iliopsoas muscle is the main hip flexor. It is made up of two parts - the psoas muscle that starts at the lumbar spine, and the iliacus that starts from the inside of the pelvis. They come together in the pelvis and extend down over the front of the pelvis and join onto the greater trochanter of the femur bone. Iliopsoas is the muscle that often gets tight and overworked in skaters. When the iliopsoas muscle is shortened and tight, it can pull the pelvis into an anterior pelvic tilt and the lower back into hyperextension. Restricted mobility and excessive pressure in these areas may result in hip and low back pain. Kneeling iliopsoas stretch is a good way to stretch iliopsoas muscle. It could be combined with an exercise band to add a hip extension self-mobilization effect. The stretch should be at moderate intensity without pain and/or soreness. It is not recommended for those individuals with FAI or hip impingement conditions. http://files.academyofosteopathy.org/... https://jaoa.org/article.aspx?article...
