Javeare White has loved airplanes since he was a child. Now, he's a highly-trained Aviation Maintenance Technician for UPS. See for yourself how Jefferson and our Aviation Maintenance Technology program opened doors to his dream career. #UPS #JCTC #education Metro College led JaVeare White to UPS From forklift driver to aircraft mechanic, he credits Metro College When JaVeare White joined UPS in 2007 as a Metropolitan College student, his plan had been to work at UPS for a few years, graduate debt-free, and then pursue a career in military law. Life, however, had other plans. “Metro College was one of the main reasons I came to UPS — to get my schooling paid for. But my journey led me on a different path for awhile,” JaVeare said. In 2008, JaVeare left UPS for an opportunity to play football at Purdue University, where he later obtained a bachelor’s degree. After college, his career aspirations took a turn when he started a family. JaVeare said he did not want to spend time away from his family for military basic training and schooling, so he returned to UPS in 2014 as a Metro College student and earned an associate degree in Aircraft Maintenance Technology from Jefferson Community & Technical College. Shortly after, JaVeare received his Airframe and Powerplant license. Now, more than 12 years after he first started at UPS as a forklift driver in the Worldport Freight Facility, White has established a career as an aircraft maintenance technician in the Weekend Night operation in Louisville. Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor Antranik Abdoyan has known White for about four years and has been his supervisor for the past 18 months. “JaVeare, a relatively new mechanic, has shown an eagerness to learn, ask questions and attend company-offered technical training. These are three key requirements that ensure lasting success in Aircraft Maintenance,” Antranik said. “His easy-going and friendly personality has contributed to a quick and successful integration into the overall team dynamic.” JaVeare typically services A300 planes, but he also performs maintenance and repairs to other assigned aircraft during his weekend shift. “I have always been fascinated by airplanes and wondered how they worked,” he said. “It’s cool to work on a plane and watch it go out into the sky.” Recently, JaVeare revisited the WFF where it all began. “Being in the freight facility again brought back a lot of great memories,” he said. “It also puts things in perspective as far as my growth within the company.” While reflecting on his past Metro College experience, JaVeare had a message for current Metro College students. “Stick with it. As long as you have a goal in mind, you can achieve any dream you want as long as you work for it,” he said. “Look at my testimony. I started out as a forklift driver and became an aircraft maintenance technician. I wouldn’t have been able to do that without Metro College. UPS put me through school and helped me graduate debt-free.”Antranik said Metro College has benefited not only JaVeare, but UPS has received an employee well positioned for a long-term career with the company. “At UPS, an employee can start out in an entry-level job and end up having a long and rewarding career,” Antranik said. “JaVeare is an example of someone successfully using the company-offered tools to achieve not only his personal goals, but to do so while benefiting UPS. The Metro College program is a win-win for both the employee and the company.” Video courtesy: Jefferson Community & Technical College
