In this video I work on the second turning of a once-turned and dried mimosa wood bowl. The process involved filling cracks with epoxy resin, turning off some wood, sanding and applying the final finish. I cleaned out any bark inclusions and used taped to create pockets into which I could pour black epoxy resin to fill the voids. After the resin cured, I remounted the bowl and did the final turning and sanding to thin the walls. I removed the remaining bark from the outside for a more natural look. To finish, I rubbed on several coats of Danish oil with steel wool for a silky smooth surface. This was a challenging project working with the cracks and voids, but I'm really pleased with how this rustic yet elegant bowl turned out. Give it a watch if you're interested in learning my process for twice turning green wood pieces and filling defects with epoxy resin casting.
