Westminster Abbey = Part 9. Recorded on Wednesday 22nd March 2023. Much nicer weather & really enjoyed this visit! We start off, leaving the Chapter House & out into the Great Cloister = Which then leads us into (THE PYX CHAMBER) "which is one of the oldest surviving rooms in England" = having been built in the early years following The Norman Conquest "dating from around circa 1070 = it was built as part of the first Norman Abbey" Just think of the history that this room has seen!! It later became a strong-room + still retains its original 11th century floor tiles + 14th century solid old & iron clad doors. Then from there, we head back out & around the Great & Little Cloisters "with their beautiful water fountains + rich with the sound of birdsong" = walking along the centuries old flagstones = We see the ruined chapel garden of St Katherine's. Then from there, out into The College Garden "such a beautifully calm & tranquil place + boasts to be The Oldest Garden in England" ⬅️ Now, this "I truly enjoyed" = crazy to think that we're just a stones throw from parliament & the crazy modern world, that surrounds this calm & tranquil Garden "filled with birdsong & smell." Then "once I finally managed to drag myself away from the Garden & Cloisters" = We get a proper tour of the walkways of the Cloisters = which has many many graves & memorials "from the very old, such as early Abbotts & Crusaders" to the modern "memorials to WW1 & WW2 Heroes /Heroines" + many many more Memorials & Tombstones, some of which, we have a view of, on our way back into the Abbey.
