Something a bit different. It's not all Joy Division after all. This is something I've wantd to hear for years. It's a track from Miles Davis at times insane electric period. If you only know 'A Kind of Blue' you may be in for a shock. Miles Davis band was doing a lot of crazy things at the time. On this track in particular Miles plays organ. And it completely drowns out everything else on the track. You can hear the official version here. • Miles Davis - Rated X Sorry Miles but it's maye the most innappropriate organ playing I've ever heard. Which is a pity because THE DRUMS are incredible. And what's behind the curtain of organ clusters is a kind of proto dub track which wouldn't have been out of place coming from an 80's post-punk band. It's also, thanks to those drums not a million miles away from classic Hip-Hop and even Drum and Bass. In short it's forward looking music for the early 1970s and I wish Miles' ego had been less prominent. Had let his pride, for me, ruin a great track. Maybe you're a fan of discordant tonal clusters. I'm not persuaded. I seperated the stems but things, but as always with these processes it sounded strange. Especially the bass. So I re-recorded that (there are only two notes). I did some surgical work with the other parts and added a bit of delay and reverb to act as a glue between the parts. Ted Maceo, who was Miles' producer for all of this experimental, electronic period used lots of delay effects, so I have too. It helps cover up the artefacts on the drum tracks as well. What you end up with is a 'Miles Davis' track with no Miles on it. No doubt Miles would have called me an awful name for removing him from his own record Anyway, this is just something I wanted to hear, maybe you will too. If not, fair play and have a good day. I'll be back to making video essays soon but I'll be honest, it's time consuming and like many others I'm trying to make a living (unfortunately making those just doesn't pay) in the spare time I've had I've very much wanted to scatch the itch of music making (after all that's what the whole thing is about isn't it). That said I have a few essays which will become videos I'm working on concurrently so we'll get there.
