Today we're fabricating a custom ESP32 board from scratch. Featuring DIY circuit board routing on a 'cheap' CNC router, soldering using a hotplate, a DIY solder paste stencil using a CNC laser engraver, KiCAD, FlatCAM, and my personal favorite, TWO BUTTONS! It's not exactly a tutorial, as is my wont, my apologies if that's what brought you here. However, there is some practical knowledge to be gained in between the nonsense if you're so inclined. There's an overview of the ESP32's auto reset programming circuitry and some particularities of my specific FTDI231 UART to serial conversion board. We go from ESP32-WROOM module, through the auto reset SINGULAR PROBLEMS all the way to a basic Arduino style RGB LED blinking program using PlatformIO and VSCode for the IDE.
