HOKA NAZ Elite athletes Alex Masai and Wesley Kiptoo went into the 2025 Chicago Marathon with one goal: to run 2:06. This would be a PR for both of them by almost two minutes. That goal was shattered. With Conner Mantz, Rory Linkletter, and their pace makers set to break the American and Canadian record, respectively, Alex Masai made a game-time decision 21 kilometers in that it was no longer a race to chase a time, it was a race to compete. Coming through halfway at 62:19 Alex and Wesley were in a chase pack with about 10 other runners... that didn't last long. By 27K that pack quickly dwindled down to Alex Masai and Conner Mantz. Rounding the second to last turn form Michigan Ave to Roosevelt Rd, all that was in front of Alex were two runners and road. Alex ran a blazing time of 2:04:37 to take 3rd place and gave HOKA its first World Marathon Major podium finish.
