Before anyone panics… yes, I set it on fire. No, we didn’t burn the place down. This weekend at the off-grid cabin, we did a controlled burn around the property to clear years of deadfall and thick underbrush. Living in the woods means wildfire prevention isn’t optional — creating defensible space around the cabin is one of the best ways to protect it from a potential wildfire. We focused on clearing brush, reducing fuel load, and improving overall land management around the homestead. Jenn and the kids came out to help gather wood, manage burn lines, and clean up the property. It turned into one of those weekends that reminds you why maintaining rural land is worth the work. Along the way, I replaced a broken sink sprayer, fired up the wood stove, and of course… pizza bites made their appearance. Cabin life isn’t always dramatic — but sometimes protecting it requires lighting a match. In this video: • Controlled burn around the cabin • Wildfire prevention and defensible space • Clearing underbrush and deadfall • Off-grid cabin maintenance • Small cabin repair project • Family homestead weekend If you’re interested in off-grid cabin living, rural land management, brush clearing, wildfire mitigation, and protecting your homestead, follow along. We’re learning as we go — and doing what it takes to protect what we’ve built. Also huge shout out to @T@TheOffGridHermitor hooking us up with the awesome weather station!
