This famous record really was used as a BBC test record because of its remarkably high quality: I've gone round studios testing gramophone players myself with it. EMI made special pressings in vinyl rather than noisy shellac for the BBC. When the 78rpm gramophone players were removed, I acquired the last remaining copy in Engineering Stores (it would have otherwise have been thrown out) so the record was genuinely mint and unplayed. It required only minimal noise reduction to get rid of a few slight ticks. If you can listen to it on a high quality system you will hear just how good a 1932 recording could be. It was originally issued on Columbia DB 955, and re-issued in 1938 on FB 2816. Recorded 28 September 1932.
