On 2 October 1983, Labour Party leadership candidate Neil Kinnock made a fateful decision while walking Brighton's seafront with his wife, Glenys Kinnock. In a bid to impress the press, the MP for Islwyn jokingly offered to walk along Brighton's pebble beach to allow the cameras to get a "real scoop" of Kinnock walking on water. It was a decision Kinnock would never live down, as soon afterwards the leadership hopeful fell victim to the tide. Not the figurative tide of political change or social revolution – the actual tide. It was announced on 3 December 2023 that Glenys Kinnock has died aged 79. As well as being wife to ex-Labour leader Neil Kinnock, Glenys Kinnock served as a Member of European Parliament (MEP) and a minister of state in the Foreign Office in the government of Gordon Brown. In a statement, her family said she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2017, facing the disease with "innate courage". #NeilKinnock #Kinnock #GlenysKinnock #Labour #LabourParty #Politics #UKPolitics To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/...
