VICTORIAN BLITZ Live at What’s Up Thanksgiving Night November 25, 1987 Slidell, LA. “We’re VICTORIAN BLITZ and we’re here to ruin your Holidays” is how vocalist Paul Prickett addressed the crowd on this Thanksgiving Night in Old Town Slidell, Louisiana in 1987 and we wouldn’t have it any other way back then! After spending turkey day loading up on food with my family, this 18-year-old “borrowed” my Dad’s VHS camera to bring to the club to video tape some bands. It was a big group of us from Chalmette, the future “Chal-Metal” scene alumni, all gathered to watch our friend’s band open up the show and of course to see VICTORIAN BLITZ. This was at the tail end of their life span. Guitarist Kirk Windstein, was about to be drafted to the band SHELL SHOCK the following year by Hatch Boy. Who was the bridge and the original ambassador between the Metal / Hardcore / Punk scenes in New Orleans…But we’re still a few months away from that happening. Tonight, we have the 1st set featuring a mix of originals and (daring for the time) covers. They opened with “Raining Blood” by SLAYER and had a lot of the underground scene alumni up front shaking their heads and shanking with approval. They didn’t let up. It was a great show. This tape survived going through “The Storm” (Hurricane Katrina / The Levee Breach of Aug 2005) when my place in Chalmette was completely under water. So, for the tape being this old AND going through Katrina, this is not bad. Enjoy a walk down memory lane. This was the tail end of this era at this club and the VFW Hall on Franklin. The scene was in the process of moving to Storyville Jazz Hall for the next few years…. Set List: “Raining Blood” (SLAYER) “Unleash The Fury” “Ton Of Bricks” (METAL CHURCH) “Last Caress” (MISFITS / METALLICA) “Coming Out Swinging” “Desert Plains” (JUDAS PRIEST) “Ride The Lightening” (METALLICA” Not seen because the video was so messed up and unsalvageable “Stop Me From Falling” VICTORIAN BLITZ: Paul Prickett: Vocals Kirk Windstein: Guitar Kevin Noonan: Guitar Danny Theriot: Bass Sid Montz: Drums Kirk would leave the band shortly after this video was shot and join SHELL SHOCK, Kevin would later join him in AFTERSHOCK / THE SLUGS / CROWBAR.
