In this exclusive interview, a former elder and long-time member of the church, Karen Alsop, shares her experiences at Casey City Church. Setting the Stage On June 26, 2024, I had the opportunity to sit down with Karen Alsop, an elder for life according to the church's constitution, to discuss her journey and experiences with Larry Sebastian and Casey City Church. This episode seeks to unpack the manipulation, control, and consistent behavior of Larry that led to profound emotional and psychological impacts on the congregation. Walking Through the Past Karen joined Casey City Church in the mid-2000s with a vision to run a camping ministry called Royal Rangers. Initially, her enthusiasm and drive melded perfectly with Larry's grand vision for the church. However, the seemingly ideal partnership soon revealed cracks as missions for grandeur took centre stage over genuine pastoral care. In 2009, fuelled by ambitious visions and prophecies, the church set its sights on acquiring a major property, thrusting the congregation into a challenging financial commitment. Karen recounts how she felt responsible for initiating this path — a journey she later recognised was manipulated by Larry's interpretations of prophecies and visions. A Shattering Realization The true gravity of Larry's manipulative behavior began to surface around 2010-2012. Karen faced significant emotional manipulation and control, particularly during her pregnancy, when Larry expressed overt disappointment in her capacity to serve the church. The constant state of giving eventually took its toll, both on Karen's mental health and on her unwavering belief in the church’s mission. Over the years, Karen witnessed families and individuals being systematically controlled and pitted against each other.
