Matthew King discusses Ravel’s habit of imposing difficult compositional challenges on himself with examples from his output. Matthew looks in detail at the wonderful Pavane au bois dormant from Ma Mère l’Oye and explains why it is so special. The video ends with the original version of the Pavane for piano duet.
