The government has unveiled what it calls the biggest reforms to work and welfare in a generation. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the 240 million pound plan, which includes better NHS and mental health care to help those signed off with longterm sickness, will end a 'culture of blame'. But the Tories accused Labour of 'dodging tough decisions', such as failing to crack down on sickness benefits. Nine million people are currently not in a job or looking for work. 2.8 million of those have been signed off with long-term sickness. And the benefits bill currently stands at 137 billion... should Labour have done more? with sickness and disability benefits alone set to soar to 100 billion pounds by the end of the decade.
