Ateny Wek Ateny, has denied the evacuation order reportedly issued by the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang. On January 25, 2026, Maj. Gen. Koang released a statement urging civilians in areas under SPLM/A-IO control, along with personnel from UNMISS and other humanitarian organizations operating in Nyirol, Uror, and Akobo counties, to evacuate within 48 hours and move to government-controlled areas for their safety. Hon. Ateny clarified that the statement did not reflect the official position of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan.
