A piano arrangement of the music that plays while exploring the 25th dungeon accessed in the video game Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky. 0:00 A Floating Island (Var. I) 2:56 Deeper Still (Var. II) 4:27 The Point of No Return (Var. III) 5:35 High Resistance (Var. IV) 7:04 Dusknoir's Scheming (Var. V) 7:51 The Heist (Var. VI) 8:29 Aftermath (Var. VII) This arrangement /explores/ the two pieces of music covering the Hidden Land, elaborating a whole lot on the two themes. I followed a rough timeline to guide myself through writing a decently cohesive work, with seven main ideas, as shown above. I. establishes the Hidden Land as a mystic, ethereal place. I thought of the descent into the island on Lapras as a foundation. Decided on having a free-time section here to really solidify these points. (Sidenote, MuseScore 3 with auto-placement makes stuff like this really tedious to write...) The free-time sections surround a full arrangement of the Hidden Land theme. II. reiterates the Hidden Land theme again, but now slower, with a heavier feel -- used more of the low end of the piano and poured in a whole lot of mildly dissonant harmony. This part's likened to the trio getting deeper into the dungeon and encountering tougher Pokemon. At the end, a bit of Hidden Highland gets inserted in for the transition into the next variation. III. is the trio entering the Hidden Highland. The music gets a little faster-paced here and even more intense as we begin to grasp the actual gravity of the situation. The chord progression at the beginning wasn't part of the original piece, but I love them progressions with chromatically-descending root notes lol IV. is a rise in conflict between the trio as they get pummelled by the even stronger Pokemon in this dungeon. I wrote some /achievable/ polyphonic lines on the score to represent them arguing, or just struggling in general. This climaxes with a direct transcription of Hidden Highland's B section. V. I imagined as a short cutaway to Dusknoir and his coalition of Sableye just doing some evil scheming in a corner, hiding away from the three. Originally, this part elaborated on the running notes in the 3rd section of Hidden Land, and was a blatant copy of Bach's Prelude in C minor (BMV 934). So not that far off, in being completely separate to the rest of the arrangement's tone, hehehe. Also I had written 'Dusknoir and co. have a tea break' on the score and had a chuckle. (You can hear this version here!: / beta.. ) VI. is the beginning of the trio's fight with Dusknoir. This is the final climax of the arrangement where I threw in that /triple/ forte, oh yeah. Anyway I also bring back that incomplete phrase I used in I. (in a different key) to cohesi-fy things a lil more. VII. is the aftermath of the fight. It starts with a more 'happy' version of the free-time part in I., followed by a bit of foreshadowing of the events about to transpire by quoting Dusknoir's fight theme followed by very low notes on the piano. Overall I really didn't think I'd write much for Hidden Land but it turns out this is the longest thing I've written for this series so far. Funny! Lots of people like these two themes so I hope I did them justice. This is part of my Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers - Re-scored project, otherwise known as PMD: ExR. It's where I attempt to re-arrange all of the music in the Explorers games (and a few extra) in mostly chronological order! I'm playing EoS through an emulator blind, so no spoils please!
