{060} "Battle against Dusknoir" - PMD 2 | Concert Band Arrangement

⚠️ !SPOILER WARNING! ⚠️ Arrangements with {curly brackets} mark spoiler territory! ——————— An arrangement for concert band of the music which plays during the fights versus Dusknoir and later Darkrai, in the videogames Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky. It's finally here. After a frankly excessive amount of time procrastinating on finishing this arrangement, here's my final-ish take on Dusknoir's battle theme! It's a dark and domineering piece that underscores the high-stakes challenge we are faced with, with the preservation of the future held in your hands. This arrangement follows quite a simple structure. I started with a rather faithful re-arrangement of the original track. Then on the second repeat, I added embellishments and a random percussion break, cos why not. After which I took a little detour into Hidden Land and the main theme of the Explorers games, before returning again to the battle theme at the end for a big finale. While the general structure of this arrangement didn't change much as I worked on it, the real problem I faced was rather the mixing. I was (and actually still am) not satisfied with the sound of the arrangement, especially the lack of bass at some parts. Maybe it's me growing to dislike the sound of midi instruments (which is kind of a good thing), because this sounds really similar to the Dusk Forest arrangement I'd released a year ago, and I was still ok with how that one sounded. Regardless, this was another big undertaking for me so I guess I'd expect some dissatisfaction at a few spots where I'd missed the mark. On the other hand I kept in mind the playability of the arrangement, so while the midi might not be that great, I'm sure a willing concert band can do this sheet justice haha Arr.
