We recently spent 24 hours in Bariloche with our 1-year-old! If you’re planning to visit with a baby or toddler, and are wondering what it will be like, you’ll want to watch this video. We’ll share some tips, our itinerary, a fun activity for little kids that no one talks about, where to eat, and some activities for older kids. This is a city of steep hills, some of the sidewalks are stairs, and some stretches of sidewalk are broken and not very smooth. So our tip is to stay as close to the waterfront as possible, or along Mitre, the main street for tourists, lined with lots of cafes, restaurants and attractions. Museum of Patagonia As for attractions, we visited the Museum of Patagonia, which focuses on natural history and anthropology. Our daughter loved seeing the different animals: penguins, albatrosses and vultures. Nahuel Huapi Viewpoint and City Sign We then made our way down to the waterfront for a stroll along Lake Nahuel Huapi. This is where you'll also find the Bariloche city sign to snap that classic photo. Museum of Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic This isn't necessarily a kid-friendly museum, however, our daughter had fallen asleep, so we had the chance to visit. This is a new museum in Bariloche that opened in September 2025. It pays homage to the fallen soldier and veterans of the Malvinas War. Cathedral of Our Lady of Nahuel Huapi This stone cathedral sits on a hill with rose bushes out front. It was designed in the Gothic Revival style by Alejandro Bustillo, the same architect behind the famous Llao Llao Hotel. And it was built between 1942 and 1944. Familia Weiss We had lunch at Familia Weiss, a restaurant specializing in a mix of German dishes and Patagonian dishes. We got the Goulash with Spaetzle and the Hunter’s stew (with deer meat) also with Spaetzle. It was a wonderful meal with lakeside views. Del Turista That afternoon, we enjoyed ice cream at Del Turista, one of the top ice cream shops in Bariloche. We got 3 ice cream flavours: coconut and dulce de leche, Black Forest, and wild forest berries. It was the perfect mid-afternoon treat. Carrousel Next, we made our way to a kids' play center called Carrousel. This is a fun space for little kids aged 0-8, with an old wooden carousel, a ball pit, a slide, and lots of other games. We paid $4 USD for 30 minutes of play. They also sell coffee, sandwiches and other light snacks. More kid-friendly activities in Bariloche For older kids, you can also consider activities like: riding the chair lifts up to Cerro Campanario, seeing life-sized dinosaur replicas at Parque Nahuelito, or enjoying some ziplining at Canopy Bariloche.
