Many times, we think of chaos as disorder or restlessness, something that should either be avoided or shunned. However, what if chaos is actually the very meaning of life? In this TEDx talk, Sudipto examines the idea of restlessness as evidence of being alive. He draws connections between art, science, and philosophy, starting with the poetry of Javed Akhtar, the scientific discoveries of Nikola Tesla, the wisdom of Kabir, and the teachings found within the Bhagavad Gita. Through a series of powerful metaphors and true accounts, such as the use of Mahatma Gandhi's principles of non-violence and the bravery demonstrated by the employees of the Taj Hotel during the November 26, 2008, terrorist attacks, this talk shows how the ability to visualize allows us to find the truth within the chaos that surrounds us. The speaker also highlights that seeking chaos is not a way to welcome the disorder. Instead, it enables us to discover and build a framework for three key criteria for excellence, which are fearlessness, selflessness, and a commitment to perfection rather than results. Once these three qualities have developed, they often result in the creation of excellence, such as a nation rebuilt, a scientific breakthrough, a piece of music that inspires, or a righteous battle won. Sudipto Das is an author, musician, tech leader, and social thinker. He is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and co-founder of two startups. He is known for his novels, “The Ekkos Clan” and “The Aryabhata Clan”. He is also a trained violinist and composer whose work blends history, culture, and art to explore the deeper harmonies of human experience. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
