The Presidency has pushed back strongly against claims that Nigeria’s newly enacted tax reform laws were altered outside legislative procedures, following allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and several civil society groups. The dispute centres on claims by lawmaker Abdussamad Dasuki that discrepancies exist between the versions passed by the National Assembly and those later gazetted, raising fears of possible legal challenges. President Bola Tinubu has already signed four tax reform bills, with implementation scheduled for January 1, 2026, while the House of Representatives has set up a seven-member committee to investigate the allegations. Professor of Politics, Kenneth Nweke, joins us live from Port Harcourt to assess what this controversy means for public trust and Nigeria’s political climate. Watch the whole discussion.
