This is a Stellarium visualization of the 2020 annular solar eclipse that occurred in the middle of the eclipse season very close to the northern (summer solstice). The path of the eclipse passed over parts of Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. The year 2020 is situated about halfway between Minor Lunar Standstill and Major Lunar Standstill. This period has been termed Equalized Lunar Standstill by the Archaeoastronomy Database. The position of lunar nodes changes over an 18.6 year cycle so the time of year when eclipses can occur shifts over the course of the cycle. During an Equalized Lunar Standstill eclipses occur near the solstices as the moon begins to reach maximum monthly positions that pass through solstice positions at various times. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Archaeoastronomy Database facilitates the gathering of crowd-sourced data relating to archaeoastronomy.
