Owen Kennedy's Senior Voice Recital Accompanied by Dale Anderson UW-Eau Claire | Phillips Recital Hall February 23rd, 2026 Program Notes: Schneeglöckchen (Snow Drops) From 6 Einfache Lieder: Op. 9 No. 1 (6 Simple Songs: Op 9 No. 1) E.W. Korngold (1897-1957) Erich Wolfgang Korngold was known as one of Austrias greatest young musicians, much like other famous child prodigies. Sechs Einfache Lieber, Op. 9 was first published in 1916, with “Schneeglockchen” as the first song in the set. The recent return of interest in his music has brought him back into focus among late Romantic-era composers. “Schneeglockchen” with words by Joseph Von Eichendorff, is a song that switches between four-four and three-four rhythms and moves back and forth between minor and major chords. The lyrics describe a calm night in a garden where the warm breeze tells the gentle snowdrop flowers to wake up. But the snow-covered ground still lingers, leaving the flowers to sink back into the Earth, much like the poets who are tired of singing.
