CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A new survey shows that more people are “moonlighting” as vegetarians. From wraps, to salads, to main entrees, a new study by Datassential on plant-based eating found being a “Flexitarian” is on the rise. A Flexitarian is a person who primarily eats vegetarian but occasionally eats meat or fish. Researchers say after questioning 1,500 people of all ages, they found one in three eats at least a “vegan meal” a week. Now for some that means changing what you put in your wrap. Anthony says he now sells a lot of wraps made with vegetables and nuts for protein rather than meat, this survey also found blends are a trend, meaning many people are eating meat, blended with grains and vegetables. Now for those of you wondering why you should consider being a Flexitarian, it is a great way to lower fat and calories and add fiber and other nutrients to the meal. Much of this change is happening because many of the foods taste better than ever before, which is likely to increase demand.
