Singing Cowboy Died Too Soon! Will Ryan, Man of Many Talents. May 29, 1949 - Nov 19, 2021 R.I.P.

Singer, songwriter, actor, performer, voice actor and a friend of everyone he ever met, Will Ryan died of cancer Nov 19, 2021, at the age of 72. I have compiled a collection of short, original songs performed by Will that we recorded as a warmup for our A WORD ON WESTERNS interviews. So, kick back and enjoy the show. Will certainly turned out to be more than just a mere warmup for his growing legion of fans. For the past 8 years, Will Ryan and the Saguaro Sisters have been the opening act for A WORD ON WESTERNS tapings at the Autry Museum. Before the interviews would begin, Will and the harmonizing Sisters would perform original songs that Will had written for our shows. Will had suggested to me back in 2013 that he'd like to bring a trio of girls, his cousins, to sing a couple of songs before the guests would join me. Sure! Why not? And, boy, were they great, real crowd pleasers and helped us kick off our long running interview series. Johnny Crawford was often in the audience and would sometimes join Will and the girls onstage for an impromptu song. Turns out Will and the Saguaro Sisters (or whoever else he could wrangle) would be off and entertaining folks at the Motion Picture and Television Home, hospitals, invalids, kids and anyone who wanted a good time or needed cheering up. Will was an in demand voice actor, too. For Disney, Will was used and used often. He was the voice of Willie the Giant in "Mickey's Christmas Carol" in 1983 and many times thereafter. Will was Tigger in "Welcome to Pooh Corner." Voiced Rabbit, too! He can be heard on DUCK TALES, AN AMERICAN TAIL and THE LITTLE MERMAID. Lots of non-Disney work, including GARFIELD AND FRIENDS, GUMMI BEARS, THE LAND BEFORE TIME, SMURFS, G.I. JOE, LOONEY TUNES BACK IN ACTION and FAMILY GUY. In a recent series of retro live action black and white short subjects, directed by Michael Schlesinger, Will was paired with fellow writer and performer Nick Santa Maria as the dim-witted duo, Biffle and Shooster. He may be gone but he will definitely continue to bring joy, love and laughs to generations to come. Will brought back the singing cowboy and we are all luckier for hearing and knowing him. Deepest sympathies to Will's wife, Nancy, and all of his friends and fans. Now, he's in harmony with Roy, Rex, Tex, Gene, Monte and all of the other B western singing heroes.
