Yoyo Rambo is a game published by the Vietnamese mobile app distribution service qplay.vn in 2011 for phones supporting J2ME. Downloading the mobile version required sending an SMS with the text "JG3 Contra" to 6111 (cost: 1000 VND). The game is essentially a remake of the original Contra, with some interesting features added (including an in-game store that required additional transactions to purchase coins (the in-game currency), which could be used to purchase extra lives, as well as two weapons not found anywhere else in the game). There is no plot in this game, but the objective is clear: destroy the Alien lair. According to internal files, the game was originally planned to have six levels, but the fifth level disappeared without a trace during development. The game files also reveal that the main character's name is Contra (however, given that no one wanted to sue Konami later, you won't see any keywords in the game itself). The game uses sprites from several Contra games (1, 3, 4, HC), and the level designs attempt to resemble those from the original Contra (Jungle, Alien Lair, Hangar). The main character is armed only with a machine gun, but as the game progresses, the player can acquire a Spread Gun or Flame Gun. In the in-game store, the player can purchase a more powerful version of the Flame Gun (a nod to Super C), as well as a Homing Gun with weaker ammo. Some of the game's main drawbacks are the awkward screen scrolling (it moves slower than the playable character) and the lack of balance on higher difficulty levels (this is explained by the high health of enemies and their sometimes awkward placement, plus one of the bosses moves incredibly quickly around the level, making it difficult to kill). To get the "ending," you must complete the game on the hard difficulty level. The music includes the Game Over theme from the original Contra, which plays throughout the game. What can you say? The Vietnamese knew how to make games, but many of them are poorly crafted carbon copies of legendary titles, and Yoyo Rambo is a perfect example.
