In this video, I break down tithing in both the Old Testament and the New Testament to answer a question many believers ask—but few teachings explain fully: Is tithing a biblical command for Christians today, or was it specific to the Mosaic Law? We’ll examine what tithing actually was in the Old Testament, who it was for, how often it was required, and how it functioned in Israel. Then we’ll look closely at the New Testament, including Jesus’ teachings and the practices of the early church, to see whether the tithe is ever commanded under the New Covenant. Old Testament Scriptures on Tithing Genesis 14:18–20 – Abraham gives a tithe to Melchizedek (voluntary, not commanded) Genesis 28:20–22 – Jacob vows a tithe to God (conditional vow) Leviticus 27:30–34 – The tithe belongs to the Lord Numbers 18:21–24 – Tithes given to the Levites for their service Deuteronomy 12:5–7 – Worship at the place God chooses Deuteronomy 14:22–29 – Multiple tithes, including a tithe eaten by the giver and a tithe for the poor Deuteronomy 26:12–15 – Prayer connected to completing the tithe Malachi 3:8–10 – Israel rebuked for robbing God under the Law New Testament Scriptures on Giving Matthew 5:17 – Jesus fulfills the Law Matthew 23:23 – Jesus addresses tithing under the Law to those still under it Luke 18:12 – Pharisee boasts of tithing Acts 2:44–45 – Early church shares freely Acts 4:32–35 – Giving based on need, not percentage 1 Corinthians 9:7–14 – Supporting those who labor in ministry 2 Corinthians 8:1–12 – Giving according to ability, not compulsion 2 Corinthians 9:6–7 – God loves a cheerful giver Hebrews 7 – Abraham, Melchizedek, and priesthood context #tithes #christiancommunity #christianvideos #churchfamily
