Liszt Dante Sonata Fantasie Quasi Sonata (Ervin Nyiregyházi) (Score) 1973 Live

Ervin Nyiregyházi delivers a live performance of Liszt's virtuostic Dante Sonata written in 1849. Full of eccentric bass notes, great voicing, and very passionate playing it seems. Still, this is not the best and nowhere near my favourite due to the fact I simply cannot enjoy the music as much as other pianists play. The Poco Rallent Part is executed poorly and the the beauty in the next accelerando part seems to be lost because the left hand is not played correctly and it is far too loud. This is probably my least favourite Nyiregyhazi recording to be honest. In fact there was really no musicality in this performance. 4:35 sounds painful and dry, along with the poor interlocking octave part. The relative climax starting 19:35 is also very bombastic. About all of his recordings are bombastic but in a good way that elevates the piece, but this is an exception. But it is still a nice recording to listen to once in a while to be reminded of him.
