This video is highlights from Game 6 of the 1967 World Series Oct. 11 between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Red Sox in Boston, won by the Red Sox, 8-4. It is from The World Series of 1967 highlight film done by Major League Baseball and is narrated by Harry Caray. There's a version of this up on YouTube, but the picture isn't as sharp as this one. This Series matched the 100-1 Impossible Dream Red Sox, led by Triple Crown winner Carl Yastrzemski and Cy Young Award winner Jim Lonborg, who claimed the American League pennant on the last day of the season, against the dominating Cardinals, paced by brilliant starter Bob Gibson and speedsters Lou Brock and Curt Flood, and who rolled to the National League pennant. Riverboat gambler Boston manager Dick Williams chose rookie Gary Waslewski, who had only pitched in 12 regular season games, to start Game 6. He faced Dick Hughes, the loser in Game 2. Rico Petrocelli gave the Red Sox an early lead with a second inning blast over the Green Monster in left. St. Louis came back with two runs in the top of the third, but in the Sox half of the fourth, Yastrzemski, Reggie Smith, and Petrocelli all went deep, setting a Series record with three homers in the same inning. Waslewski pitched well but tired in the sixth and was replaced by John Wyatt. The Cardinals got to Wyatt in the seventh, with Brock blasting a long two-run homer into the right-center field bleachers, tying the score at 4. The Red Sox sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored four runs, and Gary Bell worked the last two innings for the save. The Series was now tied at three games apiece, with a marquee Game 7 matchup between Gibson and Lonborg (on only two days of rest) to decide it all. Box score, more information in comments.
