Poppies are going to put me out of business! They're easy to grow, and they're even easier to grow. Poppies are easy to grow as long as they get adequate moisture. If you've gone out to see a super bloom after heavy rains, you'll see a lot of poppies. Those seeds can lay dormant for years until they get the rain they need. When it comes to growing them in your garden, you can broadcast the seed before rains, or you can do it anytime if you're irrigating regularly. The plant will take care of the rest! 1:46 Types of Poppies In addition to the California poppies, we carry the Shirley variety. They're really light and also super easy to grow. Because they're so delicate, they don't make for good cut flowers. Note that these are NOT the varieties that you grow for edible use. If you're thinking about poppyseed muffins, that's a totally different variety. These varieties are ornamental. They look great, attract pollinators, and easily reseed year after year. 3:43 Growing Poppies They're easy to start from seed right in the garden. You can broadcast them or get a little more intentional if you want. Poppies develop seed pods that carry dozens of seeds. As they develop, they will eventually pop and shoot seeds all over. If you're growing for flowers, be sure to deadhead your stems and remove spent flowers. That keeps the plant's focus on growing flowers instead of trying to develop seeds for the next generation.
