Videoed on a camcorder in circa 1991 this shows the original Manchester Victoria station before it was bulldozed to create the MEN arena and the railway operation much reduced. At this time the Metrolink had recently started running from Bury to Victoria using the then new T68 trams, at this stage they were not running through the city centre. Victoria is first viewed as are a number of locomotives either working or stabled around the station. Examples of Class 37 and 47 can be seen along with views of Class 56, Class 108's, Class 121, Class 142's, Class 150's, Class 156 and the then relatively new Class 158's. The video then moves across to Piccadilly (via a Centreline bus) where the variety of traction was just as interesting with Class 86's, 87's, 82's, 47, 101, 304, 108 and 158 all seen before going back to Victoria once again later in the day (as I would have got the Metrolink back from Victoria). The quality of this is not great and was filmed circa 30 years ago on VHS-C tapes on a fairly basic camcorder. The vast majority of the traction and stock seen within the video is now scrapped or long withdrawn, the exception being the 158's which still run through Victoria today and some of the '37's, with some of the AC traction now being found in Eastern Europe. #britishrailways #manchester #1990s
