After considering the idea of importing some Japanese 2 lamp reverse Fuji preheat fluorescent fixtures for my collection, I have finally been able to get my hands on this Mitsubishi KV-4642 reverse Fuji 2 lamp FL40 preheat fluorescent fixture for my collection. Before LED lighting became popular, these reverse Fuji fluorescent fixtures were a major workhorse for Japanese store and office lighting. I decided to get this fixture because I honestly think that the Japanese reverse Fuji fixtures are the most beautifully designed utilitarian fluorescent fixtures in the world. These fixtures were often equipped with either rapid start ballasts, preheat ballasts, or electronic ballasts. Although it is true that Japanese 20W fluorescent tubes are short enough to not fit in North American and European 20W linear fluorescent fixtures, Japanese 40W fluorescent tubes are able to fit just fine in either North American or European 40W linear fluorescent fixtures. You can see in the video that I was able to fit a pair of North American F40T12 fluorescent tubes very nicely in the fixture and they run very well too. The ballasts inside the fixture are a pair of low power factor single lamp 100V 50Hz FL40 preheat fluorescent HX ballasts instead of a single 2 lamp lead-lag ballast. Interestingly, this preheater is much lighter than all my other North American 2 lamp F40T12 preheaters.
