So, this was an awesome not-so-little surprise. While I was up in Massachusetts and Connecticut recently, I was looking for different places to stop at, and a little bit of Googling turned up this movie theater in Hartford that appeared to have an arcade. There was so little information online about it, though, that I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Well, I definitely wasn't expecting THIS! The Arcade on New Park Ave is located inside the Apple Cinemas Xtreme building, but they're most certainly their own thing. At the current moment, their space consists of two hollowed out former movie theater screens, with a wide variety of games spread across the two auditoriums. The screens are still hanging on the walls, and they have laser lights projected on top of them. It gives the place a totally unique character that isn't like anything else I've experienced before. From speaking with the manager, it sounds like the plan is to expand even further into more of the vacant theaters in the future, and they have even more games that are waiting to go out on the floor. As far as the arcade games go? A lot better selection than any of the other movie theater arcades I've visited. Between modern racers like Super Bikes 3 and Asphalt 9, a wide range of redemption games, shooters like Halo and Jurassic Park, a bass-thumping StepManiaX cabinet, and even a small selection of classic retro games (including favorites like Bubble Bobble and Dragon's Lair!), there's a little bit of something here for everyone! Although this is a hike for me, I can't wait to keep tabs on this place and I'm eagerly looking forward to returning in the future once they expand more.
