So why do you work? Is it about pay? Is it about career? Is it about promotion? What is it? We've got a model that will unlock the reasons why people work today, and it's called the three Cs. Hi, welcome to the Let's Talk Talent channel where we discuss the world of HR and talent management. We're here to help you unlock the potential in your people. When I started work, 30 years ago, I worked because I actually believed in the cause of the organisation, I worked at the BBC, and I worked in consumer programmes. And when you think about the generations that work in our organisation today, actually cause has become a really important part. And the reason why I start with that, is because it's actually part of the three Cs. Three Cs stand for: Career, Community and Cause. Career is number one – career is not just about progression and promotion, it's about possibilities. So do people feel that they can develop themselves professionally and personally within your organisation? Are you giving them the transparency, the opportunities, to be the best that they can: ultimately, unlock their potential. The second is community. Now community is all about the people that you work with, that can be your team, that can be your boss, that can be the ecosystem of the organisation. But people come to work more and more because of the people that they work with. The third is cause. Now some will think that that just comes from working in a not-for-profit, where the cause is the heart of why people work. But actually cause is about understanding and feeling that you can contribute to something bigger than yourself. So the vision, the purpose, the mission of an organisation, and for me, of all of the three Cs, it's the one that has really epitomised my career, and that we're seeing, more and more so in organisations, being the number one reason why people join, but also the reason why people leave. So how are you using the three Cs? Do you understand what career, community and cause, and how they fit within your organisation? And if you do, what are you doing to create the join-up? That's your mission. That's your purpose. Join up those three Cs across your whole employee experience. You will then really excite people about how they develop their career, but you also give them a reason to stay within your organisation. And what can be better than that? So do you believe in the three Cs? Is there a fourth C that you think we've missed? Leave your comments and thoughts below.
