Making Homemade Bagels for the Very First Time! 🥯✨ These homemade bagels turned out absolutely amazing — they were gone in less than a week! My kids love them simply with cream cheese and butter, while others have made delicious breakfast sandwiches. Joshua even takes them to work for lunch! The bagels came out soft and chewy, just like a perfect bagel but without being too stiff or hard. My kids said they were amazing, so I’ll definitely be using this recipe again and trying different flavors next time! Making them was super easy, and I’m excited to add this to my growing list of homemade breads and pastries. If you love baking at home, you’re going to want to try this! Homemade Bagel Recipe: Ingredients: 1 1/3 cups warm water 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast 1 tablespoon honey 3 1/2 cups bread flour 1 1/2 teaspoons salt Baking Soda Bath: 6 to 8 cups water 1 tablespoon baking soda 1 tablespoon maple syrup Egg Wash: 1 large egg 1 tablespoon water Directions: Whisk warm water, yeast, and honey in a bowl and let sit 10 minutes to proof. Add flour and salt, then mix with a bread hook until dough forms (it’ll look dry and scaly). Knead on a floured surface 2-3 minutes until soft and smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise about 1 hour until doubled. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a pan with parchment paper and spray with oil. Prepare egg wash by whisking egg and water. Prepare baking soda bath by heating water, baking soda, and maple syrup on medium. Divide dough into 8 pieces, roll each into a ball, place on parchment, and stretch center to form a hole. Once bath is bubbling, boil 4 bagels for 1 minute each side, then place on parchment paper. Repeat with remaining 4. Brush each bagel with egg wash, sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning, and bake 20-25 minutes. These bagels freeze well and taste great even after thawing—perfect for anytime you want a fresh bagel! Thanks for joining me on this homesteading adventure. I love baking and can’t wait to try new flavors next time!
