🚵♂️ Remote Wainwrights, Fighter Jets & Epic Descents – MTB Loop from Nether Wasdale 🌄 Starting in the peaceful village of Nether Wasdale, beneath England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, this ride is a true Lake District adventure. I head northeast along the shores of Wast Water before looping around and tackling a full hike-a-bike ascent of Illgill Head, carrying the bike on my shoulders. From here, it’s an unforgettable descent over Illgill Head and onto Whin Rigg — two dramatic and rarely-visited Wainwrights that rival Scafell for views and atmosphere. Towering cliffs drop away to Wast Water below, and today I’m joined mid-ride by fighter jets roaring down the valley beneath me! From Whin Rigg, the ride continues with another epic descent into Miterdale Forest, where I discover a flowing bridleway trail all the way to Eskdale Green. The loop wraps up with a scenic road ride through peaceful lanes and remote valleys back to Nether Wasdale, completing nearly 30km of stunning terrain. 🎯 Ride Highlights: Lakeside trail along Wast Water Steep hike-a-bike up Illgill Head with incredible views Fast, technical descent from Illgill Head to Whin Rigg Fighter jets flying low over Wast Water!
