Jhusing is a hidden gem of a place and a great offbeat destination in Kalimpong, North Bengal. There is no motorable road in Jhusing yet. To get to this village, you would need to hike for one kilometer from where your vehicle would halt. It is a great choice for trekkers, especially beginners, who would like to experience unspoiled nature in all of its glory. Situated at the edge of the Neora Valley, Jhusing serves as the base for numerous trekking routes, including the Mulkarkha Lake Trek and the Neora Valley Trek. Visiting this hilltop paradise would give you the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the sunrise over the icy peaks of Mt. Kanchenjungha. Jhusing village has just one homestay, the Jhusing Farmstay, run by Mr. Bedu Dhakal. Bedu Ji arranged for a porter to carry the extra luggage, as it isn’t an easy task to carry more than a back pack or a rucksack for me. The one-kilometer trekking route, which is actually a hiking trail, was a little more difficult than I had anticipated, but the strain and discomfort of the entire experience will surely pass once you reach the peak. I spent my time relaxing and relishing the beauty of the surrounding lush greenery, splendid hills, and blooming flowers. It isn’t just a place to stay but also a demonstration farm where you can experience rural livelihood. You get a farm tour, and you might want to try your hand at farming while you’re here. Bedu and his family were very friendly and made us feel at home. They served vegetarian food, which was prepared with produce from their own farm. Even the dairy products are made right here, not purchased. It becomes very cold at night, so I used to spend my evenings by a bonfire.
