I Hiked to the Best View in Yosemite - Clouds Rest via Sunrise Lakes Trailhead Clouds Rest might just have the best view in all of Yosemite National Park. On this hike, I set out from the Sunrise Lakes Trailhead late in the morning and spent the afternoon climbing toward one of the most iconic summits in the Sierra Nevada. I began hiking around 11 AM, making my way through the forested sections of the Sunrise Lakes Trail as the afternoon light filtered through the trees. The trail steadily gains elevation as it climbs deeper into the Yosemite wilderness before eventually breaking out into granite terrain with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. By the late afternoon, I reached the summit of Clouds Rest, where the views absolutely took my breath away. Standing at 9,926 feet, the narrow granite summit ridge offers a stunning panorama of Half Dome, Tenaya Canyon, and the vast Yosemite backcountry. After spending some time taking it all in, I began the long hike back. On the descent, the sun began to set, lighting up the mountains with golden light before fading into darkness. I finished the hike after sunset and in the dark, eventually making it back to the trailhead after an unforgettable day in the high country. If you’re looking for one of the most incredible viewpoints in Yosemite, Clouds Rest is hard to beat.
