Your ride starts in San Martin. From here you ride next to a ‘Senda del Oso’ through the stunning Valdecerezales Gorge. ‘Senda del Oso’ is an old mining track turned into an extremely popular hiking and bicycle path (greenway). This segment is mostly downhill, so the segment is perfect as a warm-up before you start the 1472 meter climb to Gamoniteiro. The second segment takes you up to Alto de la Cobertoria, famous for its appearances at the Vuelta. The last segment, the icing on the cake, takes you up to Alto de Gamoniteiro. It is one of the most beautiful climbs in the Asturias. Not only do you have stunning views, but also an average grade of 10 %. This segment is the beauty and the beast in one ride. A ride with a really nice ending. Where most climbs take you to a mountain pass, this rare ride actually takes you to a mountain top. With its telecommunication tower on top Gamoniteiro reminds you a lot of Mont Ventoux. But contrary to Mont Ventoux this ride is more isolated and remote. The lack of cars, tourists and souvenir stalls gives Alto de Gamoniteiro a unique cycling experience. But when it comes to music opinions are very mixed. This is why we do not add music to our rides. We simply do not want to spoil your ride with music you do not like. But it is quite simple to add it yourself. Open an extra browser tab. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, YouTube, etc…) and pick the music you like and enjoy the ride...
