In today’s episode I start planting up some potatoes into some 30 litre buckets I'm using charlottes this year for the potato buckets and I decided to put in three potatoes in each bucket this will actually encourage bigger growth of the tube as an hopefully a bigger harvest. So I've done 4 buckets at the moment and they will be plenty so that I get a harvest around about four weeks before my main growing potatoes outside will come to harvest this will ensure that I get potatoes around about four weeks before hand and some nice fresh potatoes with some nice salted butter and some smoked bacon is one of my favourite meals. Next I remove all the clashes in the polytunnel to ensure that the seedlings don't fry up and die this will also get increase the airflow for the seedlings creating more healthier plants. Outside I decided to read some of them raised beds and mulch with a nice thick layer of farmyard manure I also add in some 6X organic plant feed into the bed as well creating a nice growing medium ready for things such as runner beans and my brassicas. It's now allium leaf miner season which is normally between March April and May and so I've insured this buy weed in the bed and then give it a good feed and then netting it with a nice fine vegetable netting that will stop the allium leafminer going on to the bed laying its eggs in the soil and then in late spring and summer the larvae will eat eat away at your alliums which will destroy your harvest. I'm not over the extra garlic that I've got on the figures olive plot by adding fibreglass hoops and then adding net to those as well to ensure that I get a good crop from those. I'm a little bit disappointed with the Northern Lights leaks yes they do look nice but the colouring didn't come on until late spring just before I'm going to harvest so I've decided I'm not gonna grow them next you I'm sticking to my Musselburgh and my giant Bulgarian leaks. I also received another delivery of pigeon manure from a friend who has pigeons and inet tend to rot this in a compost Bay for about 6 months to a year because at the moment is too rich after you I can then add it to the bed and this is rocket fuel for your plants. I also added some planters to the front of the Poly tunnel . By using metal plates this ensures that I can remove the planters whenever I want they just sit on the metal plate and actually give it more stability so that they don't go down I added in some spring flowers into the planters this will create some colour at the at the front of the plot through spring. By completing all these steps before spring this will ensure you have more of a success throughout spring and summer with your harvests by using these simple steps of feeding the beds creating a better environment for you to plant in, will ensure you not only enjoy your growing space but more success.
