With roots dating back to the early 1940's, at the very dawning of conflict in the European Theatre of WWII, the 32nd found their footing within the Netherlands after being stationed within the confines of Kelly Field, Texas. Initially, the 32nd were known by the name "the 32nd Pursuit Squadron (Interceptor)" and had been equipped with Curtiss P-36A Hawks and later, though for a short period of time, the Curtiss YP-37 - an all-round improved interceptor, in both airframe and deployable capability. One year after the ending of WWII, in late 1946 and after being majorly downsized to just a non-operation administrative organisation by late 1945, the 32nd Pursuit Squadron was completely disbanded and all activities of the squadron ceased within Europe. The name "Wolfhounds" honours the squadrons participation in tracking down Kriegsmarine U-boats, of which operated as "Wolfpacks" (a attack formation commonly witnessed during the Battle of the Atlantic) during the 32nd's anti-submarine operations on that front.
