CLTN Peer Learning Session: Lessons from the MENTOR Model

Nine Fellowship Programs: One Playbook of Successful Options -- Lessons from the MENTOR Model Presentation by Nancy Gelman, former Program Officer, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, International Affairs, Africa Branch. From 2008 to 2025, nine 18-month MENTOR Fellowship programs were organized that develop small transdisciplinary teams of early-career conservationists who spend 18-months learning to work together to problem-solve and address threats to threatened wildlife species. MENTOR programs are academic and field-based, and Fellows earn credentials from national universities or regional wildlife colleges. During this session Nancy shares the different regions, species, threats, budgets, academic accreditations, implementing NGO and university partners, schedules, and countries.
