Along with his wife Carol, Mark Mestemacher has been an avid and loyal supporter of District 7 students for over 30 years. He is best known for his involvement with EHS wrestling and the Edwardsville Wrestling Club (EWC), which promotes the sport and prepares athletes for success on the EHS wrestling team. During his time working with the EWC, the organization has grown into one of the largest and most successful in the state. He served as the vice president from 1994-95 and is an honorary life member of the organization for his hard work and dedication. The EWC is sanctioned through the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation and USA Wrestling. In 2009, the Mestemachers donated funds to build the 24,000-square-foot Jon Davis Wrestling Center, where the Tiger girls and boys teams train, and which is home to the EWC. Since 1993, EWC has made 26 state duel team appearances with a fourth-place finish in 2024. In 2006, Mestemacher was named the recipient of the "Dan Gable, America Needs Wrestling" Award by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and the Gold Level Special Recognition by the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association. Two years later, Mestemacher received the Meritorious Service Award from the NWCA. In 2010, Mestemacher was awarded the Albert Cassens Award for Outstanding Community Achievement, which was established in 1993 by the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce. Mestemacher was elected into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Fame in 2011.
